When we talk about technology in education particularly in teaching and learning aspects, the first thing that came to mind is ICT. Our country, Negara Brunei Darussalam, has invested millions of dollars in providing the infrastructure to implement the use of ICT in education. Such infrastructure includes provision of computers and internet access, professional training for teachers on the know-how of ICT and recently the development of ICT curiculum documents constituting schemes and teaching guidelines.
Currently, every school in the country has been equipped with at least one ICT lab consisting of several computers with internet access for integrating the use of technology in teaching and learning. There are a few aspects that need to be addressed before employing ICT in teaching and learning of mathematics:
Teaching aspects :
1. In what stage of the lesson is ICT used ?
2. Which component of ICT is utilised in the stages of the lesson?
3. Is the content/use of ICT caters for the different levels of pupils in the lesson?
Learning aspects:
1. Is the activity using ICT conducted in pairs, groups or individual?
2. Is the activity using ICT utilise the internet , CD software or software in the computers?
3. How to monitor the progress of each pair, group or individual work?
4. How to assess pupils understanding of the lesson using ICT?
